00:00 As you continue to create and add new topics to your RoboHelp 9 project, you'll 00:05 eventually want to think about getting them organized into a Table of Contents. 00:09 That's what we are going to talk about now. 00:11 A Table of Contents is typically made up of those little TOC books that you can 00:15 double-click to reveal additional books, or maybe even topics. 00:20 So we are going to start over here on the left-hand side of our screen in the 00:22 Project Manager pod, and we are going to continue to work with our How to Use 00:26 lynda.com project that we've started here. 00:29 Notice in the Project Manager pod there is a Table of Contents folder, and 00:33 when you click the Plus sign to expand it, well, look at that: a Table of 00:37 Contents has actually already been created by default for you when you created the project. 00:43 It uses the same name, How to Use lynda.com, and there it is in brackets, the word Default. 00:47 It's your default Table of Contents. 00:50 But you will notice if you select it, really nothing changes. 00:53 The next pod over to the right is where you're going to see your TOC books. 00:58 Now, there aren't any yet. We haven't created any, but this is where we go to create them, and they will be 01:03 part of our default Table of Contents because it is selected here. 01:07 Let's start though by renaming this. 01:09 You could right-click and choose Rename. Or with it already selected, just click 01:13 again and you're inside the text where you can start making changes. 01:17 I'd rather call this How to Use lynda.com Help and press Enter. 01:22 So that's the name of the Table of Contents itself. 01:25 The books inside the Table of Contents, well, this is where we do it. 01:29 Let's go up to the first button on the toolbar here in this pod. 01:32 You'll see New TOC Book. Give it a click and you're ready to start creating 01:36 your first TOC book. 01:38 The book title goes in here where the cursor is flashing. 01:42 Here's a typical one, how about Getting Started? 01:46 So we'll have maybe a few topics in here about getting started with How to 01:49 Use lynda.com, and you'll notice there is a check box here to create a Book with Link. 01:55 We don't want to select that if we're thinking about having more than one topic 01:59 be part of this particular TOC book. 02:02 If you did want it to relate to a single topic, you could then click the check 02:06 box and link to one of the topics that appears down below. 02:11 But let's deselect it so that it's not actually linked to any specific topic and 02:15 we can add more than one if we need to. 02:18 So with it deselected, we'll click OK, and there's our first TOC book 02:22 called Getting Started. 02:23 Let's add some more now. 02:25 We'll add another one here by clicking the button, and we'll simply type in the 02:28 name. How about Navigation, or Navigating the UI? And when you click OK, you 02:36 have a second book. 02:37 Notice that there are some typos in here, and it actually shows you with that red 02:41 squiggly line. And just like we did with the name of our Table of Contents, with 02:45 it selected, we can click again to get inside and make any changes necessary. 02:51 And then just click outside to fix that up and save your changes. 02:55 Let's add another book now. 02:57 This time we'll type in Browsing. There we go. 03:02 Let's add another one. 03:05 Let's call this one Getting to Know LDC and click OK. 03:12 And then you realize really that doesn't fit and it doesn't look right anyway. 03:16 With it selected, you can click any TOC book and just hit your Delete key on the 03:20 keyboard to remove it, simple as that. 03:23 Now, there are some other buttons that you will notice up here in the toolbar. 03:26 We are going to talk about creating pages in the next lesson, but we also have 03:30 these little arrows that allow us to manipulate the actual books themselves. 03:35 So for example, if we want to change the order, put Browsing ahead, we just bump 03:38 it up with it selected, right to the top. 03:41 No, let's go down one. Or maybe actually Browsing should be a book inside the 03:46 Navigating the UI TOC book. 03:49 So let's move it back down and we'll click the right arrow. 03:53 Notice it becomes a nested TOC book. 03:55 It's part of the Navigating the UI. Perfect! 03:58 Let's go up to Navigating the UI, click once, then click again to get inside. 04:03 We should really be clearer here, Navigating the User Interface, and then just 04:10 click outside to save that. There we go. 04:12 Now it's starting to take shape. 04:14 It's always a good idea to click the Save button or the Save All button to save 04:18 any changes you've made to your project. 04:21 So we've started to create our TOC books here. 04:24 In the next lesson, let's talk about how we get pages and topics into those 04:29 TOC books. |
