00:00 If you've been following along with me in this chapter, you've been creating TOC    

00:03 books, topics, adding topics to those TOC books, and believe it or not, that is    

00:08 the basis behind most RoboHelp HTML projects.    

00:12 But for the project to really work properly if viewed by users, you have to    

00:17 generate the project, also known as compiling, and that's what we're going to do    

00:20 right now, continuing to work with our How to Use lynda.com project.    

00:25 For this to work, you're going to have to make sure your Single Source    

00:27 Layouts pod is visible.    

00:29 If it's not, click the View menu to make it visible. And we're going to keep it simple for now.    

00:34 We're going to go down to our primary layout, Microsoft HTML Help, and select it.    

00:40 So you can click the icon.    

00:42 You don't really need to change anything with the name.    

00:44 All you want to do is make sure it's selected before you generate the output,    

00:48 and to do that, it's really quite simple: the third button here on the toolbar    

00:52 inside the pod is Generate Layout.    

00:55 When you click this button, you'll see the HTML Help Options dialog appear,    

00:59 where you get to choose the location. Where are you going to generate the end product?    

01:02 Notice it ends with a .chm extension.    

01:06 So you can browse, like I have, to the Desktop, or somewhere else on your computer.    

01:11 It's up to you.    

01:12 Now, down below you can see the Table of Contents here.    

01:15 We can click this to go from the default Table of Contents to any of the other    

01:20 Table of Contents we've created, such as our Web Help.    

01:23 In this case, we don't want to use the Printed version,    

01:25 we're going to go to the Web Help. And we'll forget about Index, Glossary,    

01:29 et cetera, for now, because we haven't worked with those yet.    

01:32 So we have enough to generate the project at this point.    

01:35 All you have to do is go down to the bottom and click Save and Generate.    

01:39 Now, it's fairly small at this point, so it won't take very long before you see    

01:42 this dialog indicating that it has been built successfully, and we can actually    

01:47 view it directly from here by clicking View Result.    

01:50 This will open up the window, and you can see we've got our Contents tab, the    

01:56 Search tab for searching for contents that are in our topics already. And if you    

02:01 want, you can double-click the books to open them up and go to a specific topic    

02:04 by clicking it and viewing it over here on the right-hand side.    

02:09 And that's your very first RoboHelp project.    

02:11 You can close it up by clicking the Close button, and every time you make    

02:15 changes, additions to your project, and you want to see what it's going to look    

02:19 like, you need to generate it.    

02:20 Of course at the very end, when you're done, you'll generate it one last    

02:24 time for your viewers.    

02:26 Now, if you do want to see your project in that generated layout, you can.    

02:31 Of course it has been saved to the location you specified.    

02:34 So for example, if I was to minimize RoboHelp, I can see it right there on my Desktop.    

02:39 Double-clicking it is going to open it. That's one option.    

02:42 Or if you're using RoboHelp and you're working away and you want to see it, you    

02:46 can also make sure it's selected here in the Single Source Layouts pod, and    

02:49 there's a button for viewing the layout.    

02:52 Click the View button and it will pop-up right here on top of RoboHelp, so you    

02:56 can check it out, see if everything looks just the way you want before closing    

03:00 it up and continuing to work on the project.

03:07 more options, a lot more details that we need to discuss, but that's all coming
